Vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty are similar spinal procedures that help men and women with chronic back pain and debilitation due to a vertebral fracture. The procedures involve injecting bone cement into fractured vertebrae through a tiny hole in the skin. Most patients average 70 years of age, but younger patients with osteoporosis caused by metabolic disorders or long-term steroid treatment may also benefit from vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty. Unlike vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty uses a small balloon that gently lifts bone fragments into correct positions. Some patients with vertebral destruction from malignant tumors or chronic back pain are candidates for these procedures.
Our vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty patients come to us from Arlington Heights, Elgin, Elk Gove, Schaumburg, Palatine, Hoffman Estates, Wheaton and surrounding locations.
